Jay W. Filter

In his thirty-five-plus years of advertising work, Jay Filter has won hundreds of regional, national and international awards for his creativity in both Copywriting and Art Direction roles. Included are such noted competitions as National ADDYs (AAF), CA Magazine, Graphis, PRINT Magazine, and the RACC (Retail Advertising Council) where he received two National Campaign-of-the-Year Awards. In addition, he has won numerous TELLY awards.

Jay’s work has been recognized multiple times by one of the industry’s most prestigious international programs, the CLIO AWARDS, winning three of the coveted statues, as well eight nominations in total.

A few of his pieces are featured in college textbooks on advertising and marketing. Two of his published books are now archived in the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., as well as a campaign he created for the College of Engineering at Marquette University.

His work has been seen and noted in several high-visibility business publications, including the likes of NEW YORK TIMES, WALL STREET JOURNAL, ADWEEK, ADVERTISING AGE, as well as a variety of other consumer and industry trade magazines.

He has served on the Board of Directors of the Easterseals Society. In addition, he has served on the Board of Directors and as an officer of the former MAC (Milwaukee Advertising Club), and was chosen to represent the Midwestern region (seven states) of the AAF (American Advertising Federation) at their national review committee in Washington, D.C.

Over the years, he applied his multiple talents to a broad list of impressive and highly visible accounts while employed at a number of respected Ad Agencies. his work included notoriety for his simplest, yet best known, creation for Summerfest, where he came up with the well known tag: the “BIG GIG”.

After starting his own boutique agency, lasting fourteen years, he made a career switch and added award-winning photographer and occasional travel writer to his list of credentials. In this relatively new role, Jay has enjoyed overwhelming success, winning awards both nationally and internationally. This includes taking the Photography of the Year award in the International Book Awards competition, which spans over seventy countries for his comprehensive work on The History, Art & Imagery of the Pfister Hotel. A mere four years later, he once again won that same prestigious award, Photography of the Year, for a lavish coffee-table book celebrating the beauty of Napa Valley.

His photography has been seen in CA Magazine, Smithsonian Magazine, USA TODAY, Frommers, MSN, National Geographic, as well as a variety of other photographic magazines and travel books.
